April 25, 2014, marks the official opening of the NBA Café in SM Aura. We first reported about the NBA opening only its second ever league-owned restaurant in the world, after their flagship branch in Madrid, here in Manila back in May of last year. However, a number issues led to numerous false starts and erroneous opening dates being released to the public. Finally, though, the long wait is over.
The café is meant to be a haven dedicated and desgined speficifically for the fans of the NBA, with its walls covered with NBA memorabilia and paraphenelia. Signed basketballs by NBA stars, NBA Jerseys, a Larry O’Brien trophy, and defining moments in the NBA captured in photographs are put on display to let customers get a better sense of the league’s long and storied history.
Television sets dot the interiors of the café, each table being arranged in such a way as to give everyone a clear view of the most recent NBA games being played on the tv screens. The café will also be hosting live viewing parties, visits from both current and former NBA players, and other special events that will surely attract more fans.
The menu is filled with a wide selection of food from beloved American classics to infused Asian-Filipino dishes. The inclusion of Filipino classics aims to cater to the local market’s palate.
More than anything, the NBA Café is a place for fans to share their love and passion for the sport with fellow fans, family, and friends. It’s a place where they can shamelessly indulge in their passion. In the Philippines, they’ll have no shortage of die-hard basketball fans eager for a taste of the authentic NBA experience.
