Sweetness: Is the sweetness natural and pleasant, or artificial and cloying?
Texture: Is the honey runny or thick? Is it smooth, syrupy, grainy, or crystallized?

Appearance: What color does the honey appear to be—pale gold, amber, or dark brown? Is it clear or cloudy?
Fine Print
The Lineup: We tested 13 local and international honey brands from the grocery.
Why We’re Doing This: Honey is generally expensive, which makes a bad purchase sting. And price or fancy labels don't always guarantee good flavor—it's easy to drop a thousand pesos on something that tastes like cough syrup. So to save your money, we spent ours first: we bought every grocery honey we could find, tasted each one, and broke down what you can actually expect from the bottle.
What is "Best" Honey? When we say “best”, we’re not looking for the most complex or high-end honey. This taste test looks for the best grocery honey for everyday use: one that’s classically bright, crowd-pleasingly sweet, with flavor notes subtle enough to keep it layered yet versatile, all for a price that welcomes a repurchase. While we acknowledge (and enjoy!) the qualities of more artisanal honeys, we're looking for mainstream picks that most palates will like.
Types of Honey: Honey varietals like orange blossom, wildflower, and manuka each carry distinct flavor notes. For a rough guide, check the color: lighter honeys tend to taste milder; darker ones are bolder and more complex; golden ambers sit in a happy middle. Raw honey is minimally processed and often tastes more robust and varied, while most grocery honey is pasteurized and filtered for that familiar, neutral sweetness.
How We Tasted: We tried each one as is, all at room temperature.
Blind Taste Test: All products were removed from their packaging, labeled, and tasted blind to prevent brand bias.
How We Scored: Each product was evaluated across 5 criteria. Final placements reflect the Pepper team’s averaged impressions.
Multiple Tests: This taste test has been updated over time. Current placements reflect both recent tastings and results from previous tests to keep comparisons consistent.
Transparency: No brand paid for inclusion in this taste test.
