My favorite brand of white bread is Gardenia, because it’s the only one I know. This sounds like an opinion of a 6-year old, and not a 30-year old who has the time and means to know better. But I don’t. Neither does my mom, the woman responsible for our Gardenia-loving household.
And maybe you’re just like us: someone who’s settled on one brand of white sandwich bread their entire lives, blissfully unaware of others, never curious if the bread you’re having could get any bigger, fluffier, or tastier.
Because as it turns out, it can.
For this taste test, we sampled eight different brands and variants of white bread you’re bound to find at your nearest supermarket. We tried each one, evaluated them in terms of flavor, texture, and aroma, and placed them in a handy tier list. Where does your favorite brand of white bread rank?
How we tested
We dropped by several grocery stores to get the most common brands of white sandwich bread on the shelves. We defaulted to each brand’s most basic offering while trying any milk-flavored and premium variants as well, if available. Each brand and variant was sampled as is, evaluated in terms of flavor, texture, and aroma, then assigned a rank in our white bread tier list.
