While we often see hotdogs eaten with rice and a fried egg, sandwiched in a bun, or just plain on a stick, the hearty sausages are eaten in so many different ways around the globe. We’ve created five international recipes inspired by the way other countries enjoy their dogs, so that you can easily create these experiences at home.
Instead of using a regular hotdog, we’ve partnered with CDO Idol Cheesedog. There’s cheese in every bite, so using them in these recipes, makes it even more delicious thanks to the combination of creaminess and slight saltiness. Keep reading for the full instructions!

Cheesy Japadog
If you’re looking for Japanese-style flavor with your cheesedogs, all you need to do is have these toppings on hand. A little bit of Japanese mayo, nori, and black and white sesame seeds will take your cheesedog to Kobayashi japadog territory.
Ingredients
Cheesy Japadog
- 2 pcs CDO Idol Cheesedog, cooked to package directions
- 2 hotdog buns, halved
- 2 tbsp Japanese mayonnaise
- 4 small sheets toasted nori, cut into strips
- 1 tsp white sesame seeds
- 1 tsp black sesame seeds
Place one CDO Idol Cheesedog into each of the halved buns. Place mayonnaise in a piping bag or plastic bag, then drizzle evenly over the two cheesedogs. Sprinkle half the cut nori, half of the white sesame seeds, and half of the black sesame seeds over each of the cheesedogs. Serve.
German Cheesedog Currywurst
The German way of eating sausages is very simple: just add fries, and serve with a ketchup enhanced by curry spices. Using cheesedogs makes the flavor combination even more interesting.
Ingredients
Cheesedog Currywurst
- ¼ cup ketchup
- ½ tbsp curry powder, plus more for sprinkling
- 4 pcs CDO Idol Cheesedog, cooked to package directions, sliced
- 2 cups frozen french fries, cooked to package directions
In a small bowl, mix together ketchup and curry powder. Arrange sliced CDO Idol Cheesedogs, fries, and curry ketchup in a large platter. Sprinkle more curry powder on top before serving with toothpicks.
Taiwanese-Style Cheesedog
Known as da chang bao xiao chang, this Taiwanese street food snack consists of a hotdog wrapped in sticky rice.
Here, we’ve wrapped our CDO Idol Cheesedog with rice mixed with hoisin, and topped it with chopped peanuts, cilantro, and leeks for both their crunchy textures and mixture of salty, slightly spicy, and herbaceous flavors.
Ingredients
Taiwanese-Style Cheesedog
- 1 cup cooked white rice
- 1 tbsp oil
- 2 tbsp hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, or sweet soy sauce
- 2 pcs CDO Idol Cheesedog, cooked to package directions
- 2 tbsp cilantro
- 2 tbsp sliced green onion
- 2 tbsp chopped peanuts
Take half of the cooked rice and wrap tightly in plastic wrap to form a log shape. Repeat with the other half of rice, then let rice buns sit in the fridge for 30 minutes.
In a pan over medium heat, add the oil and hoisin sauce. Remove rice buns from plastic and carefully add into the pan. Cook the rice buns until fully coated in the hoisin then remove from the heat.
When cool enough to handle, split the rice buns in half and add a CDO Idol Cheesedog to each half. Add half the cilantro, half the green onion, and half the chopped peanuts on top of one of the CDO Idol Cheesedogs. Repeat with the remaining ingredients and serve.
American Chili with Cheesedog
For a twist on a traditional chili cheesedog, we’ve sliced CDO Idol Cheesedogs instead, and incorporated it into an American chili stew. When eaten with sour cream and even more cheese, this comforting bowl is great spooned over rice or with crispy tortilla chips.
Ingredients
American Chili with Cheesedog
- 2 cans chili con carne, heated
- 4 pcs CDO Idol Cheesedog, cooked to package directions, sliced
- ¼ cup sour cream
- 2 tbsp diced red onion
- ¼ cup grated cheddar cheese
Divide the chili con carne between two bowls. Top one bowl with half of the sliced CDO Idol Cheesedogs, half the sour cream, half the grated cheese, and half the red onion. Repeat with the second bowl of chili and serve.
Mexican Cheesedog
Bringing the bright flavors of Mexico to a cheese dog is easy when you have the right ingredients. Add crisp red onion, chopped cilantro, salsa, and grated cheese to your cheesedog sandwich–we’ve used bottled salsa for an easy fix, but you can even make your own if you want to.
Ingredients
Mexican Cheesedog
- 4 pcs CDO Idol Cheesedog, cooked to package directions
- 2 large hotdog buns
- 4 tbsp jarred salsa
- 2 tbsp diced red onions
- 4 tbsp grated mozzarella cheese
- 1 tbsp minced cilantro
Place two CDO Idol Cheesedogs into each of the buns. Spoon half of the jarred salsa onto one of the hotdogs, then sprinkle over half of the red onion, half the cheese, and half of the cilantro. Repeat with the second sandwich then serve.
