These homemade munchkins are cake in body, but donut in soul. To achieve perfect chocolate spheres, they're baked—not fried—in cake pop molds. Dunkin's sugar glaze, despite the name, has no actual honey. Using it here gives the glaze a floral, almost fruity sweetness. But if you prefer a straightforwardly sugary glaze like Dunkin's, use less honey (or none at all). Either way, you'll end up with light, chocolatey donut holes with a sweet, snappy coating.

Munchkins

  • ¾ cup flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 6 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Honey Glaze

  • 1 ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp honey
1

Prepare for baking: Preheat oven to 375°F.

2

Make the batter: Combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and baking soda in a mixing bowl. In a separate bowl, mix together the milk, oil, heavy cream, egg, and vanilla. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, then stir until well combined.

3

Bake donuts: Spoon or pipe the batter into a cake pop mold, filling each half-sphere to the top. Once filled, cover and close the mold. Bake for 10–15 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Set aside to cool.

4

Make the honey dip: Combine powdered sugar, milk, and honey in a bowl until smooth. The glaze should have a thick consistency. Take the cooled donuts and toss them in the glaze until each piece gets a smooth, even coat. Remove donuts with a fork to let excess glaze drip off. Let donuts rest on a cooling rack until glaze is set. Serve.
