Because McDonald's never serves enough BBQ sauce, we made our own. A few pantry staples—plus tamarind puree and a dash of smoked paprika—can be transformed into a copycat sauce that's 90% similar to the real thing. Go beyond nuggets and serve it with fried chicken, porkchops, or lumpiang Shanghai.

  • 7 tbsp corn syrup
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • ½ tbsp water
  • 4 ½ tsp cornstarch
  • 3 tsp soy sauce
  • 3 tsp molasses
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • ½ tbsp + 2 ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tbsp + 1 tsp tamarind puree
  • pinch of smoked paprika
1

Combine all sauce ingredients in a saucepot over medium-low heat, whisking or stirring until the cornstarch is dissolved. The heat will activate the cornstarch, thickening the sauce.

2

Once the sauce reaches a thick, syrupy consistency, remove from heat and let cool before serving.
