Thick, savory breakfast toasts are a huge staple in Asian countries like South Korea and Japan. This savory egg & cream French toast recipe is a cross between those dishes and the French croque monsieur. It comes together easily; all you need is soft bread, brioche or your preferred type, and a few ingredients such as cheese, eggs, and butter.

What makes this toast richer is the addition of NESTLÈ All Purpose Cream. While french toasts are usually just dipped in milk or butter, the extra step of soaking the bread with cream and spices ensures that each slice has a velvety texture, and is steeped in the flavor of the savory marinade.

  • 1 cup NESTLÈ All Purpose Cream
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 5 tbsp softened butter, divided
  • 4 slices thick-cut bread
  • 4 eggs
  • ½ cup mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • parsley or spring onions, for garnish

Preheat the oven to 375F.

Take 1 tbsp. of butter and spread it evenly over a baking sheet. Set aside.

Whisk together the all-purpose cream, cayenne pepper, dried thyme, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Set aside.

Take the remaining 4 tbsp butter and spread evenly on the bread.

Toast the bread in a pan over medium heat until golden brown, then remove from the heat.

Very lightly dip the toasted bread into the cream mixture, then place it onto the buttered baking sheet.

Crack each egg over one slice of bread.

Pour the remaining cream over the eggs, then sprinkle over the mozzarella cheese, avoiding the yolks.

Place in the preheated oven for 12-15 mins until the cheese is bubbling, the egg whites are just set, and the yolks are still runny.

Remove from the oven and garnish with parsley or spring onions.

Serve immediately.
