Remember CocoHut, Army Navy's Filipino sibling? In lieu of your usual citrus fruits like lemon or calamansi, their house iced tea used tamarind to give it a nice, refreshing tang. It was called the Teamirind.

If you missed out on the Teamirind, this recipe hacks it quickly and easily at home. (It also passes as a hack for Army Navy's original LiberTea.) We found that Nestea's instant iced tea brings us closest to that restaurant iced tea flavor. All you have to do is add some grocery-bought tamarind paste or concentrate, toss it all in a blender with some water until foamy, and you're set.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup tamarind paste or concentrate
  • ¼ cup Nestea instant iced tea powder
  • 1 liter cold water
  • ice, for serving

Make iced tea: Combine tamarind paste, iced tea powder, and water in a blender. Blitz until both paste and powder have dissolved and a thick foam has formed. Transfer to a pitcher or divide between drinking glasses filled with ice. Serve cold, and right away—the foam will fizzle out over time.
